Volunteers celebrate in style as new directory launched

Kent Coast Volunteering has recently organised a series of fun events designed to celebrate Thanet’s selfless volunteers, charities and social enterprises.
The Community Champions Fund supported by Thanet Council and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund has delivered a fantastic array of experiences. From meditative forest bathing to high-octane Charleston dance classes we have come together to relax, meet new people and enjoy something new.
Festive Flowers
Held at the Garden Gate Project volunteers enjoyed mince pies and drinks as they created their own festive bouquet of stunning flowers. Staff form the charity that operates were thrilled to create their own bouquets to take home from Northdown Park and supports people with learning disabilities and those with ill mental health.
Tea Dance at the Caves
All the glitz and glamour of a 1920s flapper ball but with the humble and generous spirit of consummate dance professionals Round in Circles. Volunteers learned the steps of the Charleston, enjoyed a Dirty Dancy rumba routine all with a bit of cake and fizzy drink. Dancing is amazing fun, social and the best workout!
Foraging with Margate Mushrooms
A wild adventure to the stunning Pegwell Bay we enjoyed a foraged feast for a King or a Queen and learned about the abundance of edible foods on our shoreline. Meeting new people and enjoying a special talk about the wonderful Margate Mushrooms CIC, our volunteers received a free bag of dried mushrooms and learned about their healing properties.
Forest Bathing
The Japanese have a spiritual affinity with the forest and what better way to introduce the mindful practice of Forest Bathing then a walk around the amazing Monkton Nature Reserve. A time to breathe as Mother Nature caressed our souls! The blossom on the trees, sounds of the birds and the beauty of being in the moment
